"I am not an authorship you": Who and why the feminivities annoy
Feminitives (from Latin Femina – a woman) are words denoting women and often formed from masculine masculine nouns.
In the Russian language, feminity usually has a special suffix, for example, “-Its-” in the word “wolf” or “-k-” in the words “tractor driver” and “journalist”.
According to the online survey conducted in April 2021 among 164 thousand people (52% of them women, 48% are men), 84% of respondents admit that feminity will soon become a grammatical norm.
However, only 11% of respondents relate to positively.
Based on the results of another survey conducted in 2020, the Public Opinion fund, 60% of Russians negatively belong to feminitations.
Some representatives of the authorities even offer to fine the media “for the use of words that deliberately distort the Russian language and promote illiteracy.
” We figure out for what reasons people are annoyed by feminity.
First reason: language discomfort According to the authors of the book “Dictionary of the terms of intercultural communication”, language discomfort is an awareness of the inappropriateness of the use of a particular word.
It can be caused by a low self -esteem of a person, poor language knowledge and fear of making a mistake in pronunciation.
In addition to intrapersonal causes of this condition, there are external ones.
For example, if society is negative about the concept of which the word is enshrined.
If we talk about feminitations, some put a negative meaning in them and believe that a person who calls them a “accountant”, and not a “accountant”, treats them dismissively.
In such a situation, many will avoid the use of these words in speech, because they do not want to face a negative reaction.

Zen Viktor Lebedev, psychiatrist, scientific journalist: “In the case of feminititis, language discomfort can be caused by the fact that these words are still unusual for most people.
Unusual does not mean bad, but can cause a certain cognitive resistance to new patterns of behavior, a kind of “laziness” of the brain.
Usually we do not like to significantly rebuild our habits and established models of behavior, especially under external pressure.
This causes us natural resistance and a more persistent desire to do in our own way.
I think that it is not worth scolding someone for the use or non-use of feminity, as it is pointless and gives rise to excessive tension and resistance on both sides.
Over time, if the language environment changes in the direction of a greater frequency of using feminity (which is already a little), their use in speech will become more natural and will not cause such issues and disputes as it causes now.

Zen Second reason: ideology of a standard language The ideology of a standard language is a commitment to a generally accepted conversational language that is supported by various social groups.
The greatest contribution to the formation of this ideology is made by the state through educational programs.

ru School teachers from the first grade teach us how to stress and include nouns.
And when people who grew up on the classic rules of the Russian language are faced with new feminitations, they deny them, because “this is illiterate and spoils speech.

Zen The third reason: a negative attitude to feminism For the first time, new and unusual feminities, such as “Director” or “Editor”, began to use the femoons in their speeches and blogs.
Since then, these words have been associated with feminism, often with radical, to which 63% of Russians are negative.
Tatyana Larina, candidate of sociological sciences, associate professor of the Department of Sociology RUDN: “You cannot deny the tendencies to strengthen the role of women in public life.
And of course, they are reflected in the language.
Therefore, the reason for the negative attitude to feminitations should be sought in relation to society towards feminism as a whole.
The VTsIOM survey of 2019 suggests that the feministic movement supports only a third of Russians, mainly young people, and 55% do not support.
At the same time, 61% of respondents believes that we need to strive for complete equality of men and women.
This means that in the public consciousness the very fact of equality of sex rights does not cause negativity, but feminism as a phenomenon is perceived worse.
Feminitiv in this case act of linguistic markers of feminism, which in our society is by no means a granted phenomenon.
In general, of course, the younger the person, the more openly he perceives innovations in this area, but youth are not all of Russia.
From a sociological point of view, a language is a living system that is flexibly responding to a social context.
In this case, we observe in relation to feminitations a mixture of denotative meanings (which the word means in fact) and connotative, symbolic meanings (which can mean in this context) with a slope for the latter.
It cannot be argued that the “new” feminities are already completely marginalized, but rather now they are a marker, reflecting the social position of the person who uses them.
Thus, the use of new feminity is now a kind of ideological statement.
” Social economy What is feminism – in five terms Oksana Frost, culturologist, Associate Professor NIU HSE: “There is an idea that feminity is important of the extremely narrow layer of people- for example, only to people with femo and profiles.
In this case, understandable logic works: you can easily diminish the importance of anxiety of those who are small.
But the fact that this logic is understandable does not make it acceptable, since its consequence is discrimination and, possibly, rhetoric of hatred.
” Fourth reason: Fear of a new phenomenon It is difficult for many to accept new and incomprehensible in their lives.
In history there are many examples of how society has long rejected something unusual before approving it.
For example, in 1608, when Galileo Galileo, with the help of a telescope, realized that the Earth was spinning around the sun, and told the people about this, he was sent to the Inquisition court.
Also, we once did not believe in the success of television, talked about the unnecessary computers and cinema.
The reason for this reaction to a new phenomenon is the features of our psyche.
In some cases, all the fault of neophobia is a pathological fear of new and unusual.
A person who has such a problem resists fresh ideas, technologies, discoveries and even food.
But most often, how we react to innovations, depends on the susceptibility of the psyche.
Victor Lebedev: “The unpreparedness to perceive new and difficulties with switching to unfamiliar algorithms of behavior can be associated with openness of a new experience – one of the basic characteristics of the person’s personality, by which we all differ among ourselves.
Each of us is at a certain point in a spectrum from complete rejection of a new to absolute openness to everything.
It is clear that extreme points exist only in theory, but intermediate values are found to us daily in real life.
The openness of the new is closely related to cognitive flexibility, the ability to assimilate and put new knowledge into practice.
Obviously, usually with age, cognitive flexibility and ability to learning is reduced, so conservatism also increases with aging.
Not in terms of political views, but rather as a desire for the stability of the surrounding and inner world.
This is a natural process that must be taken into account when we discuss the perception of new phenomena in different age groups.
” Modern feminities are a relatively new phenomenon to which society has not yet been used to.
The reason for the ambiguous reaction to them is that they appeared only a few years ago.
To date, the situation has changed a bit, but these words are still rarely used in the media space, and 28% of Russians did not encounter them at all.
